#19 postcard
Fashion consisted of
a great pair of shoes,
and it still does, if
you ask the right people.
We rested summer
afternoons in a quiet
bar, refueling, as it
were: the jokes as
cheap as the vodka,
and the vodka was
mostly free. The shoes
we paid for, or inherited
from ancillary relatives
and newly dead friends.
