for Miko

In the curious embrace

of fever I posit that we live

as a  metaphoric approximation

of a mid-twentieth century

military uniform:

the rough wool of civilization,

the Sam Browne belt of law;

gaiters  and Jackboots

on opposing sides; helmets

which protect from above,

those designed to protect

from behind, those in which

we can  cook eggs.
