Breakfast at EpiphanyThe first word I ever learned was death. Lying in the darkness, sprawling. Listen to me, I will change your life. Sprawling in the darkness, lying. Lying, lying, lying on my bed. Sprawling on the floor, in the darkness, naked. Naked, except with clothes on. Yeah.
So I was lying on the floor. It wasn't dark, it wasn't dark. I could smell it. I could smell death. It smelled like toast. I could smell the toast, I could smell the toast. Bread, dry, cooked bread, toast, croutons, crucifix.
Life is to bread as death is to toast. You can eat toast. Can you eat death? Can you eat death? Can you spread jam on death? Listen to me, I WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! Do you know what side your death is buttered on? Howard Drucker
